Technology

Advanced technology enables us to diagnose potential issues early on and provide effective and comfortable treatment for our patients.

Digital Radiographs

Radiographs (X-Rays) are a crucial and necessary part of your child’s dental diagnostic process. Without them, certain dental conditions may be missed. Radiographs allow dentists to diagnose and treat health conditions that cannot be detected during a clinical examination. With the advanced technology of digital radiographs you can be assured that radiation exposure is greatly reduced. Today’s equipment filters out unnecessary x-rays and restricts the x-ray beam to the area of interest. Proper shielding will also assure that your child receives minimal exposure.

Optical Scanner

An optical scanner creates a digital impression of the mouth. Digital impressions that allow us to create a virtual, computer-generated replica of the hard and soft tissues in the mouth using lasers and other intraoral scanning devices in the form of a “wand”. This cutting-edge technology captures clear and highly accurate impression data in minutes. Many patients find digital impressions to be an easier and more comfortable procedure because messy and often inconvenient traditional impression materials are avoided. These 3D scan can be used to create sports mouth guards, night guards, and other intraoral appliances.

Intraoral Cameras

Intraoral cameras capture true-to-life images with advanced sensors, lenses, and lighting. They provide immediate sharp visuals allowing us to view the smallest details such as cracks, staining, caries and any other lesions in the mouth. Intraoral cameras serve as a great educational tool for our patients and their parents, and a way to see areas of the mouth that would go otherwise unnoticed.

ICON

The ICON system offers the latest and most innovative form of arresting tooth decay between the teeth. ICON provides immediate correction of initial carious lesions (cavities) upon diagnostic assessment. This system helps arrest caries progression in the early stages through a gentle method without local anesthesia or “drilling”. With early detection ICON may be recommended as the best form of treatment with the most preservation of healthy tooth structure.

The Wand® STA

For dental treatment that requires the use of local anesthesia, the STA wand provides cutting edge technology. It is a computer-controlled injection system that provides painless anesthesia for all injection types. This is particularly useful in treating pediatric patients, as its appearance is much more appealing than a traditional syringe.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a form of conscious sedation we most commonly use during extensive procedures, for patients with dental phobia, or for patients who find it difficult to sit still. Nitrous Oxide will also benefit those with a low pain tolerance, physical handicaps, or strong gag reflexes. Sedation is endorsed by the American Dental Association and is an effective way to make many patients comfortable during their dental visit. Because nitrous oxide is a mild sedative, patients are still conscious and can communicate during their visit. After treatment, the nitrous oxide is turned off and oxygen is administered for 3 to 5 minutes to flush away any remaining gas, so the effects wear off almost immediately. Nitrous oxide rarely has side effects, although some patients may experience minor nausea. For your convenience, you will be provided with pre- and post-sedation instructions.
